It is the branch of medicine responsible for newborn health. It is also called the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The word neonatal describes newborns who have not yet completed their first 4 weeks after birth.
This branch, which is affiliated to the Department of Pediatrics (Pediatrics and Health), is especially interested in babies who open their eyes to the world earlier than expected (premature) or have risky health problems.
Neonatology department applies treatments such as respiratory support, light therapy, blood transfer, intravenous feeding, examination of all systems, catheter application when necessary, thoracic tube application in case of leakage in the lungs.
In this way, undesirable results such as the progression of health problems or resulting in death cases can be prevented.
Neonatology department provides health services by cooperating with branches such as pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology and neurology. At the same time, fully equipped medical devices are used to intervene in sudden complications without wasting time, to obtain successful results and to increase survival rates.
Practices such as keeping babies in isolation during the treatment process, limiting visits or being under constant surveillance are implemented for these purposes.
